Instead of getting a new alliance partner in each match, we invite you to choose your perfect partner for the whole event. Think of unique strategies, practice together and optimize your robots, all towards better performance on the field.
The power rating of each alliance is limited in order to level the playing field. What is the better distribution? Two evenly matched teams or a more powerful one? Only one way to find out.
There are no standard FTC qualification matches at BTC. You will get to play against all other alliances in your group. The first seeds of all groups advance to the playoffs. Here, you will play in a double elimination bracket, in best of 3 rounds. The finals will be played in a best of 5 round.
This system aims to properly rank all alliances from within a group, so that the absolute best advance to the playoffs. Each alliance will play a minimum of 7 matches. For those that advance from the groups, it is then harder to get eliminated as the double elimination bracket gives you a second chance. Since playoffs are going to be still played in a best of 3 format, an alliance must lose a minimum of 4 matches to be eliminated.
Moreover, it is our goal to experiment with new concepts, to determine how well they fit with FTC competitions. FTC already has a matchmaking system, but perhaps this one is more suited for high level play.
A cash prize pool is available for the best performing alliances. Together with sponsored prizes from our partners, it is safe to say that it is worth your while to battle it out on the field.
Judged awards will also be handed out for several fun categories. Note that the standard FTC judged awards will not be handed out at BTC.
